I can't even believe that she is 8 years old! We celebrated this year, up at Lakeside. A place I've been going to since I was 10, and every Labor Day since I was in college. It's also a place she has been every year since she was a year old. We only skipped the first year because she was born on Labor Day weekend. This year was super special for her. It was the first year I pretty much let go of the reigns and let her roam freely. See, what you have to understand about Lakeside is that it is "different." It's like stepping back in time. I think M said it best. We were at the front gate of Lakeside, but actually outside the gate. M said, " Mommy is this the real world and that is Lakeside?" And yes, I do believe that is true. Lakeside is not the real world. No one smokes, drinks, or swears ( except for Michael.);) Cars go 5 miles an hours and most people walk, ride golf carts or bikes to get wherever they are going. The big activity is Shuffleboard. Days are spent on the beach, fishing on the pier, playing at the playground, and browsing in the 8 or 10 little shops that occupy the main drag. They have the best donuts, ice cream, and pizza ANYWHERE--Hands down! And Last but not least, I can let my 8 year old daughter go anywhere alone and not worry that someone is going to take her or hurt her! That has to be, by far the best thing about Lakeside! I'm so glad I could give that freedom to her, if only for one weekend. Happy Birthday Baby!
