Gosh I really suck at this!

Blogging apparently isn't my thing! I was checking in on HB's photo blog and noticed the link to my blog. I guess I didn't think anyone was reading.LOL! I promise I'll be better in 2008. It's on a long list of my many resolutions.

Well, my Black Friday sucked!

Seriously. I spent half of the day in the ER IN Morgantown, West Virginia. This time it was me being treated. Michael, his mom, and I had taken M for a photo session. Every 5 years Becky (MIL) likes to have the girls pictures taken in her pearls. The studio was in the basement of a condo. As we were going downstairs, I told M to be careful. Not 2 seconds later, the heel of my boot got stuck in the carpet on the steps and I fell---or should I say somersaulted down 12 steps. I don't remember how I fell, but Michael says it was truly, sickly, scary. I hit my head on the divider/wall between the stairway and the basement. I have a huge goose egg on the back of my head. I have bruises all over my body and can't move my right shoulder. The only reason I am even typing this is because of Percoset. Yes, it's a lovely drug! All kidding aside, Michael seriously thought he was a widow--and he will tell you that. It was bad. Poor M witnessed the whole thing and at only 5 years old, it will forever be grained in her memory. Thank Goodness, it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I wasn't going to go to the ER, but Becky thought I should. I knew I needed to eat---since I didn't have much breakfast. So before going to the ER, we stopped at Wings Ole and had Fries and Bleu--Michael is so proud! At the ER they did a CAT scan and xrays. Even the doctor is amazed that I have no broken bones. I'll have to wait a few days to see if I damaged any ligaments in my shoulder. I get sick thinking about what could have happened. I'm just very glad, I'm going to be okay.

Frustrated beyond belief

I truly believe our school nurse is incompetent! I have spent a very frustrating 3 days trying to get answers--only to get the runaround. It started on Monday, but I didn't get the details in full until Wednesday. This is how it Played out: R wasn't feeling good at lunch. Went to the school clinic. No fever, so the nurse sent her back to class. R went to art. Threw up in the Art closet sink, in front of several classmates. Classmates tell the Substitute teacher what happened. Sub sends R back to the clinic. R is there for awhile. Nurse calls Sub and asks if he saw her throw up. Supposedly an Adult has to witness this--in order for action, which is total BS to me. Sub didn't see it, Sub found out through other children. So Nurse sends R back to class!!!! Once she's back in class, R throws up again!! Through all of this, not one call was made to me to let me know that R was in the clinic! I am beyond pissed. The first call home was at the end of the day when the school didn't want to put R on the bus. So she was sick for about 3 hours before anyone called! I have talked to the Principal Twice, The nurse, and just moments ago the Nursing Supervisor for the School District. I want to know, when it clearly states on the district website:

What happens if my child gets sick at school... ?
A. Students who become ill at school are sent to the clinic or office (if the clinic is closed). A child may be allowed to rest until feeling better. If the child has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, vomits, or has persistent diarrhea, the clinic will contact the parent/guardian or alternates listed on the Emergency Contact Form to come to school to take the student home.

Why I did not get a call home when my daughter first vomited!

Our first trip to the ER

I knew we would make the trip to the Emergency room with one of the kids someday, but when I woke up this morning, I didn't know that today would be the day. I got a call from the school nurse just before noon. I'm still not sure what happened, but's M's story is that she was coming out of the school bathroom, when a boy, coming down the hall, ran into her. He knocked her down and she fell and hit her head on the bathroom door. Poor Baby. Michael raced over to the school and took her to the ER. I work 40 minutes away, but left as soon as I could and met them there. By the time I got to the Hospital...she was a happy little camper, acting all normal---well, except for the gash in her head. She ended up getting 2 stitches. I think the worst part was when the doctor was numbing her head. I know that hurt her---it was the only time she cried, after the initial incident.

I know this is awful, but the scrapbooker in me, was upset that I didn't have my camera to record the ER visit. Thank goodness for camera phones!! I was able to snap a few pics. However I need to figure out how to download them off my phone. Then I'll post them. ;)

This is what we've come to

My 4 year old son spent this afternoon PictoChatting with his 5 year old sister. Now for those of you that do not know what that is (trust me, even I wasn't 100% sure). This is Nintendo's definition of PictoChat:

"Keep in constant contact with your friends with PictoChat -- a wireless chat program that's built into the Nintendo DS. With PictoChat, up to 16 people per chat room can link over a wireless connection and chat and swap drawings all they want. Simply hand-write words or draw pictures on the Nintendo DS touch screen, and then send them to your friends. You can even copy someone else's message, edit it, add to it and send it back. Draw, doodle, share ideas or do anything else you can think of -- dreaming up new ways to use PictoChat is half the fun."

He bought that Nintendo DS you see pictured with his very own money this past Sunday. I got tired of listening to him fight with his sisters over theirs.

This kid just continues to amaze me with how technical the world is becoming. He gets on the internet everyday---usually to play PBS Kids or Webkinz. He can put a DVD in and start it with the remote all by himself. He even knows how to use my Ipod! I know this is the way the world is going, but if he keeps learning at this pace there is no way in Hell that I'll be able to keep up with him.

Happy Birthday Ry Roo!

I can't even believe that she is 8 years old! We celebrated this year, up at Lakeside. A place I've been going to since I was 10, and every Labor Day since I was in college. It's also a place she has been every year since she was a year old. We only skipped the first year because she was born on Labor Day weekend. This year was super special for her. It was the first year I pretty much let go of the reigns and let her roam freely. See, what you have to understand about Lakeside is that it is "different." It's like stepping back in time. I think M said it best. We were at the front gate of Lakeside, but actually outside the gate. M said, " Mommy is this the real world and that is Lakeside?" And yes, I do believe that is true. Lakeside is not the real world. No one smokes, drinks, or swears ( except for Michael.);) Cars go 5 miles an hours and most people walk, ride golf carts or bikes to get wherever they are going. The big activity is Shuffleboard. Days are spent on the beach, fishing on the pier, playing at the playground, and browsing in the 8 or 10 little shops that occupy the main drag. They have the best donuts, ice cream, and pizza ANYWHERE--Hands down! And Last but not least, I can let my 8 year old daughter go anywhere alone and not worry that someone is going to take her or hurt her! That has to be, by far the best thing about Lakeside! I'm so glad I could give that freedom to her, if only for one weekend. Happy Birthday Baby!

Ready or Not, Here she comes!

I'm not sure I'm ready for this.
Full Day Kindergarten that is. But she sure is. She has been anticpating this day all Summer long. Every day she'd ask the same question, "Mommy, how many more days?" Today my answer is "Zero." Maybe I'm worried because it's all day Kindergarten. My biggest questions; Will she find her classroom? Will she remember to buy Milk for lunch? I reminded her a few things as we were waiting for the bus. "M," I said. "Make sure you put your extra clothes in your cubby." Her response, " I know mom." Me again, " Make sure you buy milk, they have chocolate and Strawberry." Her again, " I will, mom." Sigh. I guess she's ready! Hopefully, I will be too....In a few more days.
